Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for your time and input!

The size of the room is 3m x 4.75m = 14.25m².

At the moment, it is mainly about the placement of the door and window, as well as the window sizes. A bathroom plan will follow, but unfortunately, we have to finalize the floor plan with windows and doors in advance. However, for that we need to know as precisely as possible how the bathroom will be best divided. (Chicken-and-egg problem) We need your support on which variant makes sense or which further impulses and suggestions we should consider so that we can plan doors and windows sensibly.

Below are 4 variants that we currently find the most sensible – due to the openness of the room and the movement spaces. The door can only be moved as shown in the following sketches.

The two of us adults mainly shower, so the focus is more on a nice and large shower rather than a tub. However, we still need the tub for a while for the kids. (Household of 5 people, another guest WC + another small bathroom are planned).

We often heard about zones in the bathroom, perhaps an explanation could follow about what exactly is meant by zones and how this is possible in a 14sqm room.

To the north, we have a nice view, so it would be nice to have a larger window placed on the north side.

We look forward to your input and new impulses!

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

I would recess the door and, if possible, have it open outwards.
Is it possible to install a skylight instead of a (large) east-facing window towards the neighbors? A skylight in the bathroom is great. Then only one window to the east for ventilation.

Apparently, you like "freestanding" bathtubs. I would definitely not plan that. It only creates awkward corners behind it. Even a 14 sqm bathroom is too small to make a "statement" with a freestanding tub. You really need a palace like Sissi’s to showcase such a tub. A large shower is always good; then you can do without doors and don’t have to maintain them.

"Zoning" is just a modern word that describes sensible planning: not walking with wet shower feet through the entire bathroom to the toilet, dividing the bathroom into "zones" so that multiple people can use it simultaneously.

14 sqm is really not small for a bathroom. You can fit everything you want plus space to move. That will not be a problem.

A bathroom like this without considering the floor plans makes little sense. Where are the wastewater pipes possible downstairs?

[Aussicht] can also mean a view to the inside under certain circumstances.

What does the architect say about the bathroom planning?

Window planning is also coordinated with the other windows of the facade.

The bathroom layout, in turn, depends on the entire floor plan and

. . exactly, the wastewater pipes of the house, possibly in the floor below.
This is not necessarily chicken and egg, but first rough, then fine. So the planning.

Hello everyone,

thank you very much for the feedback.

Recessing the door is rather unfavorable regarding the rest of the floor plan. Opening the door outwards is possible.
Recessing presumably to get further into the room?
The door can be moved within an area of 155 cm at the bottom left (see sketch further below).

That is due to the modeling in the program. We definitely do not want a freestanding tub. The idea was rather to raise the wall behind the tub to have storage space. So a "built-in slanted bathtub."

We are building on a slope. At most, a neighbor can see us through the window from diagonally below.

The first variant on the far left is what we have planned so far. From the architect’s perspective, this fits well. The more detailed planning would be done in the bathroom planning. After the bathroom planning, we can only shift the windows marginally.
The size of the windows must now be defined in order to, among other things, calculate the "structural engineering."

That is also being done. Below is a picture where the alignments to the lower windows are drawn in. This is taken into account as much as possible.

The sewage pipes are routed down in the two eastern "corners" (black squares). (See upper sketch)

Thank you for the note, we will possibly consider it.

Main goal of this discussion: Is one of the above-mentioned variants or another so good that we can install a larger window (180 cm instead of 100 cm wide) in the north?
The advantage would be a better view with "a view," although I do wonder how often one would actually do that?
Another advantage would be more light in the room.
If in doubt, we will take the smaller window and be more flexible in the arrangement of the room.

Further questions:

[*]Is it OK to walk toward a shower when entering the bathroom?
[*]Regarding variant 2: The toilet is central. Is that bad?
[*]We want a double washbasin 160 cm wide. How much space should be free on the sides? How much space should be free toward the door?
[*]Is a passage width of 130 cm behind a washbasin enough to get from the door into the rear area of the bathroom?

As recommended, the discussion was placed in the area of floor plan design.
