Hello,

I find it unfortunate that I have to register here in the forum under these circumstances, but I am really shocked about the "new" quality of the Besta series.
I bought a shelf from this series in white in 2008, it is still standing today and because I still like it, I have now acquired 5 more shelves.
But unpacking them already brought the first surprise, the shelves are no longer lacquered but coated with foil. Not so bad in itself, but the cut edges are so poorly finished that I had to exchange the top of 2 shelves again, the edges were so frayed. The other shelves are similarly poorly processed, but I can just about live with that.
When I inquired at Ikea why the quality had deteriorated so much, the employee only said: "What can I say, it is just produced even more cost-effectively."
I mean, saving costs... okay, but please not in this way... and certainly not for the price. The shelf costs 55€ after all; you can get similar quality much cheaper in any hardware store.

Best regards from a frustrated IKEA fan! :(

EDIT: Oops... wrong forum, please move to "What you always wanted to say to IKEA"!

Always funny when people pay for a Trabi but expect a Ferrari in return...

Please take a look at the date....

2010 is already a bit ago... About 1.5 years

But gesa has currently criticized the quality and it shows that even before the new low price Besta became worse. And about Ferrari, one must say, nobody demands it, but only as it was before and before that many would also pay the "old high price".

Here, here!

Yep, I just registered to confirm this. And it's about the Grankulla bed frame for the futon bed. This product was for many years a classic among IKEA products. Currently, I believe it is no longer offered. But I already had the pleasure with Grankulla twice. The first frame, which I received as a gift many years ago, was made of slats crafted from continuous wooden strips and lasted a very long time. At some point, I no longer needed it and passed it on.

About two or three years ago, my wife and I were looking for a sofa bed for the guest room. It should not be too big to save space in the small room. That’s why Grankulla together with the futon (some other name) was ideal.

But already after a short time, the slats broke through. Upon checking, it was clear why. These were glued together from very short pieces. Some of them were "waste pieces" less than 10 cm in length! The slats could be repaired again with effort, but despite the glue they never lasted long. Today I even injured my hand while trying to repair the slats because they are cut sharp and very jagged. It should perhaps also be said that we are all of normal height and weight. So for such a sofa bed, actually a quite everyday load. No more and no less.

Another example of declining quality at IKEA. Of course, this can be done and brings cost and efficiency gains. But I believe this is also extremely dangerous. At some point, a reputation is ruined and one fights against a bad image. There are enough examples of other companies. History shows that even big ones can fall.
