We are unsure whether we should install the mirror completely surrounded by tiles, flush with the tiles.

We have two sinks (each 60 cm wide) on a console and wanted to tile the wall behind them up to a height of 1.20 m. The mirror, spanning the entire width of the sinks (1.40 m), would have been mounted on the wallpapered wall and would then partially extend over the tiles below (with appropriate spacers).

An alternative would be to tile the wall behind the sinks up to the ceiling and provide a recess for the mirror (1.40 m x 0.8 m), installing the mirror flush with the tiles.

In the ceiling, we have planned an LED strip (1.40 m wide) above the mirror in both variants, alongside additional LED spots in the ceiling.

Which variant would you prefer?

In variant 1, I could also add a mirror with integrated or attached lighting afterward, as I am unsure whether the currently planned lighting (without side lighting) is sufficient.

Maybe someone also has photos of both variants? That would be great.

Thank you.

Perhaps I may introduce a third option: We have two rectangular sinks that stand on a washstand made by a carpenter. It is about 150 cm wide. The tiled backsplash behind it is 180 cm wide and 115 cm high (so 15 cm wider on both the right and left than the washstand). The mirror is set into stainless steel strips and is exactly as wide as the washstand and also flush with the tiles. The rest of the wall surface we had plastered. Mirror, plaster, and the tiled backsplash behind our washstand thus form a smooth surface.

In exact measurements, the height looks like this:

Up to 115 cm: tiles
115 - 120 cm: plaster
120 - 195 cm: mirror
195 - ceiling: plaster

In terms of lighting, we have spots in the ceiling and an outlet centered above the mirror. The lamp above the mirror will be exactly as wide as it.

Light: Above the 170cm x 100cm mirror, we have 4x dimmable 5-watt LED spotlights warm white with phase-cut dimmer as lighting.

These are 30cm away from the wall. The bathroom is 2.35m wide. There we have the same number of spotlights "in front" (so 2 rows).

I'll check later about a photo. Flush-mounted I find the nicest, as very calm, without applied frames etc. You don’t need an extra light strip with such an arrangement.

What color are the floor tiles? The darker, the more light is needed!
What are the dimensions of the bathroom?

Maybe consider mirror heating, also with a window.

Best regards
Jens

...here you go:
Spotlight arrangement, tiled up to the ceiling and mirror fitted (only phone photo, much brighter in reality)

If someone "only" has a mirror, I wonder where he and especially the woman put all the small items. Even our 130cm mirror cabinet is bursting at the seams (thanks to her)...
