Thank you for the insight from professional practice. As I said, this is really only secondarily about data protection. It is about violation of privacy/intimacy. Even a Care Bear with lots of candies would not be welcome here. At most, a poodle would be allowed everywhere here (according to my wife, my poodle would of course have a problem with that again). If the actual expert really sees it that casually, I don't see such a huge problem anymore either, but I was still surprised by the fact that the inside is also supposed to be looked at. From experience reports, I only knew about exterior inspections, sometimes even without a special appointment.

Yes, this used to be the normal state of affairs. However, regulations have changed significantly due to EU requirements. For loans < 600 TEUR, external inspections with a discount on the loan value are still allowed, but banks increasingly want to refrain from this because of capital adequacy ratios, etc.

For regular value checks (so there was already an internal inspection) in the commercial sector, these external inspections without an appointment still do occur.

Well, that probably goes a bit too far, explaining personal problems to the expert. That indeed falls under privacy!

He doesn't have to bore the expert completely, but one can briefly mention why it is difficult. That has nothing to do with privacy, but with interpersonal relations. It always depends on the situation and is probably resolved with a subordinate clause.
I have also told my boss what I was dealing with during my sick leave and what I was ill with. I don't have to do that either and it also falls under privacy. But in that situation, I was the person who willingly gave up a bit of rights to have an interpersonal conversation. It's called small talk, and in that, you always share a bit of private information. That's not a big deal and is part of life.
Especially if you are relying on goodwill or the accommodation of the other person, you can't do without that. If the expert doesn't understand at all why the OP is making the request to him, he can't accommodate him either. Why should he? From his perspective, it was no problem with 1000 other home builders either.

Don’t drive yourselves crazy, it’s not a big deal. When I was working on the last parts of the house, one of the banks also got in touch to arrange an appointment. I told him that I don’t have time for such nonsense, he knows where my house is and can take pictures of the outside at any time of day. He agreed to that and I never heard anything from him again.

Yes, we'll see. I have now also written this to the appraisal company. They have some kind of appointment portal and gave me exactly two appointment options in three weeks. Neither fit. So far, I haven’t received any response – we'll see.
