Dimming is nonsense in my eyes anyway... that's what a fireplace and candles are for :)

If I see it correctly, the 10€ things have a power of about 1 W. What do you want to illuminate with them? Or how many are supposed to be hung up? There are also nice recessed LEDs with ONE 2.5W LED. Comes in a set of 3 for around a hundred. But visually in my opinion much nicer. I have a set of 3 above the worktop of nearly 4 meters and they are really great.

1 watt is really too weak. GX53 with 60 SMD LEDs have 3 watts and produce about 220lm. They cost around 10 euros, so they should be quite bright. I have not tested them myself yet, but GU10 with 3.6 watts and 36 SMD LEDs. They are really bright, and so far (after 1 year) I have not had any failures.

Hello Herbert!
Correctly identified, GX53 is a standardized shape/socket.
The 53 stands for the contact spacing, it is 53mm. So they are quite "thick" ones with about 75mm total diameter, and a recessed ceiling reflector then has a diameter of about 85mm.
Ideal for anyone for whom an MR16 is too small, another difference is that there are no halogen bulbs at all. Only EGS or LED.

GX5.3 no longer exists under this designation, it is now GU5.3. Here again, the number stands for the contact spacing. (5.3mm)

Regards
Stefan

Thank you for your answer. That immediately raises two more questions:

1. What is EGS? I couldn't find any results here either by googling.
2. Would it be "safer" to work with Mr16? If you don’t like the LEDs, you have a big hole in the ceiling. With Mr16, you could then use halogen as an alternative. Am I seeing that correctly?

Thank you and best regards
Herbert

Sorry, I made a typo: it should have been EGL, meaning energy-saving lamp.

Now regarding the installation size, you are of course right. If you have the hole for GX53, it will be complicated to make it smaller again.
Alternatively, you can first hang the stuff provisionally on the ceiling without a hole and check the illumination.
For MR16 spots, there is of course the GU10 alternative. They are similar in size and you don’t need a transformer like with MR16.
If you want to work with a transformer, please consider the transformer capacity. Many transformers have a minimum output that must not be undercut. If you now have a halogen system with e.g. 3x30 watts and run it "appropriately" with a 100 W transformer that may require at least 10 watts minimum, you’ll be in trouble when switching to 3 x 3 watt LEDs. Conversely, upgrading again with a small LED transformer also costs money.
Therefore, be careful when buying a transformer, or just go with GU10 with mains voltage.

Best regards
Stefan
