First of all, thanks for your helpful and kind (except for one exception) comments. The window front is so large because there is a very large gallery inside, and of course you want to look outside and not at a wall/ceiling. A venetian blind of that size would probably be too vulnerable when it's windy. I think two one above the other are not so easy to "hide". All other windows will get roller shutters. But the big one is simply too high. A textile screen would be the solution, but I worry about mold. Does anyone have experience with that? The other alternative is sun protection glazing and sun protection from the inside. By the way, the house already looks really good, but of course, that's a matter of taste. Thanks.
Based on my various experiences, venetian blinds are the most comfortable and effective solution for such a case. We are building again now and have a similar glass front. Our first draft was rather conservative, then our interior designer asked us why we want a gallery and then look at a wall. So we opened it up similarly over living + dining. We once lived abroad like that with a gallery and huge windows, unfortunately without shading. But in terms of comfort, we enjoyed it. I think living is too individual for me to let one comment spoil the fun. Some people were concerned about how to clean the windows; for us, it was a joy to feel like living almost outdoors. I can only strongly recommend venetian blinds with guide rails, also because you can adjust them individually until you like them. From spring onward, we had all doors open and the blinds down/tilted.
What is crazy for one can be a great feeling for another. Venetian blinds!!!
