Is preparing for an air conditioner worth it?

My wife taps off the condensate because carnivorous plants like it that way. No joke!

I want to stick my question in here because it fits the topic quite well.

Back when we were comparing prefabricated house providers, we didn’t find anyone who would have done a pre-installation for us based on KfW40, including our current provider. Since unfortunately we will not receive any funding, I am now coming back to the topic and would like to ask you (before I contact my house provider) what exactly is necessary for a pre-installation and what the price range might be.

Briefly about the key data. The wish is for a split unit, with the indoor unit to be installed on the upper floor (bedroom). Directly above it is the cold roof of the 12° pitched hipped roof. I mention the roof pitch because I might imagine in my mind attaching the outdoor unit to the roof (is there any objection to this?). Can anyone give an estimate on this?

Is it a huge additional effort to plan for a possible second unit for the ground floor?

So the preparation for two indoor units and thus also two outdoor units costs us about €1300. All in all, we would have been at 4K but are waiting for the subsidy first. So definitely prepare both directly!!

Ohh, that much just for the preparation... I didn’t expect that...

Can you explain the services for that in more detail? What needs to be done here? What is required for the preparation?

And where would you have installed the outdoor units? I wonder if you can really strap them to the roof given the low roof pitch.

We had the entire installation done during construction, but the difference is minimal. To the final stage. Ultimately, it is about laying the coolant lines and electrical wiring, and depending on the system, also condensate lines. The only thing missing is the mounting of the device on the wall and on the roof. However, this is not significant in terms of workload.

Did you want two outdoor units for the 2 indoor units as well, or was it offered to you?
We have 5 indoor units and one outdoor unit... I wouldn’t know why you would use two outdoor units (the distances outside are too long, which almost never happens in a single-family house).

You need a double refrigerant line and power supply from each indoor unit to the outdoor unit (possibly also an extra BUS cable but that depends on the manufacturer). You should also think about how to dispose of the condensate (where to, with or without a pump).
You can also "strap" units onto the roof, they just have to be properly secured. However, there will be a hefty surcharge since such an outdoor unit doesn’t weigh only 5 kg.
