Is it possible to relocate the cistern withdrawal point? / Cistern shaft cover

Hello everyone,

Our house construction is progressing quickly and the day before yesterday the 7700l cistern was installed. That was quite a huge thing. The thing is shaped like a shoe, so somewhat rectangular, and the shaft is located at one end. Now, as it happened, the cistern was oriented the wrong way around and the shaft is now in our lawn area and not, as planned, in the future flower bed. I don’t want to have a lid in the middle of the lawn nor do I want to have to draw water there. I currently assume that the cistern will stay there because it is already connected to everything and really is a huge thing.

This leads me to two questions:
1. What does such a lid in the lawn look like? My neighbors have a “gully cover” like the ones you see in the street. It’s a disaster having such a thing in the lawn. :(
1.1. Do I really need a visible lid or can I just cover it up with soil and dig it out when needed?
2. Can I relocate my water extraction point with pump? In other words, can I just run the hose from the shaft into the flower bed and place my tap there?

Do you really consider it a catastrophe? People usually just ignore it. We have one in the lawn and one in the front yard. Unfortunately, the one in the front yard only allows you to put a pot on it because nothing grows there. You can try to cover it with grass; either it works or it doesn't (water stays there or it's constantly too dry). Alternative: there are "stylish" manhole covers that you could use. Our neighbor has one with the Hamburg coat of arms or something similar.

You can basically place the withdrawal point wherever you want. It initially has nothing to do with the cistern's lid. The only limit here is the pumping capacity of your pump. There are withdrawal points available that can be buried and have a lid. Inside there is a connection for a garden hose. We laid the hose inside an Überbein KG pipe into the cistern and connected it to the pump.

Well, fine. Colossus or not. If they install your garage the wrong way around, they have to fix it. Was it documented anywhere on paper how the cistern should be installed? The lid should be accessible, since putting grass over it is not a good idea. In the end, you’ll have to get to it anyway because something is clogged or something else... do you want to remove the grass then?

The lid of the cistern must be accessible. Every year you should take a look inside for inspection and every few years, when it is almost empty in summer anyway, it should be cleaned properly. Remove sludge, etc. For aesthetics, you put a pot or something similar on it. My parents had such a flower wheelbarrow, built by my grandfather for him, who fathered the first granddaughter ;) For the extraction point, you simply lay a hose or a pipe somewhere and install a faucet there.
