Hello everyone,

we are getting a semi-detached house facing northeast. Currently, a floor-to-ceiling window is planned on the right side of the house. On the entrance side, a large window is also pre-planned. Our considerations are to have another window installed directly next to the pre-planned window on the right side of the house.

Do you think this window would provide a significant advantage in terms of light, or how would you assess this?

I would appreciate any feedback.

That depends on the layout of the rooms or the house surroundings, especially the "right side". So the right side is a SO orientation? Where is the carport planned? It’s best if you upload a drawing. Basically, I would always advocate for more windows – often too few or too narrow are planned...

Hello,
Thank you! Unfortunately, I do not have the floor plans on hand, so a self-improvised sketch will have to suffice for now. All windows are marked with the letter F. All windows are floor-to-ceiling. The question mark indicates the additionally planned window.

That doesn’t matter at all! But wow, what’s the garage doing back there???

I would rather do without a NO window and put a 3-meter window there, approximately in the middle of the right side. And to be honest: I am probably one of the few who would do without a WC window by moving the living room further towards the stairs and fully glazing the entrance door including another floor window next to it. Then I would shorten the dividing wall to the kitchen at the entrance area to 70 cm and put a wall panel where the toilet door would then be. But maybe a fixed window could also be installed in the interior wall to the kitchen to catch some of the southwest sun there?

Thank you for the suggestions. That helps a lot. I fully agree with you about the WC. It is also planned to place it towards the stairs to enlarge the entrance.

We cannot do without a northeast window; unfortunately, the developer will not agree to that. Do you think the additionally planned floor-to-ceiling window would make sense instead?

We want to shorten the kitchen partition wall to 180 m; more will not be possible because we need it as space for furniture.

What exactly do you mean by the window in the kitchen?

Oh, regarding the garage: the garage extends slightly beyond the house in my drawing. We have the option to extend the garage by 2 meters so that it aligns with the terrace. We would like to have the additional storage space, but we are concerned that this would take away sunlight from the terrace. However, we are also planning a second terrace because, due to the orientation, we generally won’t have much sun on the terrace.
