Hello everyone,

we are currently considering whether we should install a solar system on the roof. We want to use it to heat our hot water, we heat with gas and the prices have been increasing repeatedly in recent months. From when is the system worth it?

Whether a solar system is worthwhile or not depends on many factors, such as location and area. It is best to consult an expert for this.

Hello,

you write once about making hot water, and then again about heating with gas - are you now interested in making hot water cost-effectively, or heating cheaply, or both?

Take a look here, I just wrote this earlier (topic geothermal energy; but I focused on thermal solar systems):

- Just very briefly:
Per person in the household, you need about 50-100 liters of hot water storage
Per person in the household, you need about 1-1.5 sqm of collector area, depending on the type of collector (and roof pitch/orientation, etc., possibly more necessary)

With 4 people, you would then manage with around 6 sqm of collector area.

It is different if you also want to use it for heating.
For every 5 sqm of living space, you need about 1 sqm of collector area, I read in one of my construction consulting books.

For heating, you need alternatives - but read through the post, maybe you will find some suggestions there.

Have a consumer advice center near you give you free energy consulting!

Hello, a solar thermal system pays off in the long run. Economically, a solar system initially always performs poorly. If the energy price rises sharply, the cost of materials also increases – and oops, it becomes uneconomical again, whereas a system built ahead of time slowly pays off. One thing is always overlooked – the increases in material and transport prices when energy prices rise. Since a solar system consists of a lot of metal, copper, etc., these products, which require a lot of energy to produce, immediately become more expensive (copper-DEL), and therefore it is less economical. Best regards

Hello,

this might be of interest, but I have seen elsewhere that new subsidy rates for solar thermal systems have been in effect since the beginning of the week. Above all, the basic subsidy has been increased from 90 to 120 euros per square meter.

Since today until the end of the year, the following new MAP subsidy conditions apply for solar collectors and also for air collectors:
1. (Temporary) increase of the basic subsidy for solar collectors for combined hot water preparation and space heating to 120 euros / square meter (m2) until December 30, 2011; thereafter the subsidy will be 90 euros/m2 again.
2. The previously temporary boiler replacement bonus (bonus for the additional replacement of an old heating boiler without condensing technology with a new condensing boiler) is extended indefinitely but structured on a declining scale. The bonus amounts to 600 euros (previously 400 euros) until December 30, 2011, thereafter 500 euros.
3. The combination bonus for solar thermal plus heat pump or solar thermal plus biomass also amounts to 600 euros (previously 500 euros) until December 30, 2011, thereafter 500 euros.

Hello,

there is higher funding, which is great. If you are looking for funding, everything is okay - then it’s best to tell grandma to pay the rest and then go to implementation. Oops, a red funding traffic light – well, then just tell grandma she has to pay the funding too. No craftsman is looking for such dreamers. So, wake up! 1. effectiveness/efficiency/technology is important, 2. the profitability – right, you can still take advantage of the funding – if it still exists then. Whoever asks about funding first falls into this trap and will certainly find some good salespeople – or don’t you want a solar system if the neighbor has one? If a technology is profitable, it sells itself because of the benefit without funding. Please don’t misunderstand me – I am not against funding – only how, where, when it is appropriate should be set sustainably. Sustainable is a German word, however, it is greatly abused – comparable to “honor code” – so that citizens who master the German language can no longer interpret it. So let’s go – build a solar system cheaply – there is funding.

Best regards
