At what amount does one actually take out building insurance? Elemental, fire, ... It covers the building, not the household contents. So sum insured = construction costs? Or sum insured = maximum assumable damage? In case of total loss, the construction costs would be covered, everything that was inside is covered by the household contents. ??

I'll join in on this. The topic interests me right now as well. Is it still the case that you only have a four-week deadline to change the insurance taken over from the previous owner?

I'm more in favor of insuring as little as necessary. So only what would quickly cost me 50,000 EUR or more, but nothing I could just pay for myself. If my sofa gets singed - I'll just buy a new one. I'm rather against household insurance. However, if my house burns down, I want to be covered. (I know, doesn't apply to the singed sofa : )

Which insurances are generally taken out??

Fire, household contents, building, storm, hail, etc. etc.? Are fire insurances actually still compulsory insurance for homeowners?

Questions upon questions and thanks in advance for answers :)

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and have also been dealing with building insurance. The sum is made up of the enclosed space and the quality of the equipment. There are some websites where you can calculate this yourself. But if I want to remove a wall from the house, I also want to have a structural engineer/architect who is liable if he advises me incorrectly. That meant for me - off to the broker. We finally decided on one from Münsterland. Pleasant approach: Insure what you cannot (or do not want to) pay yourself. I find it straightforward. Topic household insurance: We were previously with LVM and pay almost 80.00 EUR less at mistral despite a higher sum and better conditions. For private liability insurance, we (family) pay less than 40.00 EUR per year. Hopefully this helps a bit,
Best regards

Hello,

for us, it was the case that the "insurance lady" was interested in the Einheitswertbescheid from the tax office. The amount of the insurance is determined based on that.

Regards...
