House on a hillside and age-appropriate? Isn't that a contradiction? Outdoor area without stairs is rather difficult...

Street, driveway, entrance, living spaces are all barrier-free on one level. If one of us really can't walk anymore, they just can't use the garden anymore. We are not yet 60 and most elderly people can still climb a few steps. But just in case, we wouldn't have to move out of the house due to a wheelchair dependence.

That sounds like a surprisingly formed slope (which was basically only discovered by the surveyor, or how should one imagine that)?

You are funny :)
As thorough Northerners, we never had to deal with the topic of "living in the mountains." We have now been looking for a new plot of land around Hanover and accidentally found one in the nearby Weserbergland. Within walking distance to the train station and within walking distance to the town center of the small town - totally perfect for us..... except for the "mountains"... we still decided on the plot. After initially thinking we could "just" fill it up, we then learned (among other things from you) that a basement is more sensible.

Then you just have to learn according to my basement rule "never separate OKKD" :) That sounds like a typical case of "finding the property only after already falling in love with a specific dream house model" (which is also warned against here by far more than just me).

Never separate OKKD? Yes, exactly that case is me. I once had such a house, my son died in it and I sold it. But it was always clear that I want (need) a Swedish/Danish wooden house with high ceilings again.
