You put up a good sun sail in spring and take it down in autumn. That's it. You have the posts made and set in concrete. Custom-make the sun sail, hang it up and enjoy the summer.

Is it really that problematic with the size of the awnings? There are much larger awnings if you look at the maximum dimensions from the manufacturers. And why I also can't do without supports, I don't understand.... could you please explain that a bit more?

Or you take a sun protection pergola, ours is 4m x 3.5m and approved up to wind force 3 with gusts up to 6. If it is very windy, we only extend it halfway, then nothing rattles. You also don’t need such a stable wall connection because the sun protection runs on a rail that you can additionally use for spotlights and heaters.

Cost point, awning x 2

that’s why you go to a specialist store, they tell you how to anchor it so that certain wind strengths are unproblematic. We were advised against an awning right away because in that size it can basically only be extended when there is no wind, and you have windlessness on the coast two days a year. Otherwise, the wind comes and folds the whole awning onto the roof or, in your case, in front of the neighbor’s balcony. The awning is a huge lever and is supposed to hold with just a few mini bolts in your masonry.

You should also note that the awning must not be anchored in the last brick, so it is installed a bit lower.

our problem is 5m wide and has a projection of 4.8m,
a matching awning is very large, also very sturdy, and very expensive.
We then visited the showrooms of 2 sun protection installation companies and received extensive advice.
We have solid walls and would still have had a stability problem, they would have only installed it by attaching it to the intermediate floor ceiling.
The wind load on the surface is enormous, not just the own weight, a freely hanging awning swings up to 10cm fully extended at the end, 20cm in the wind, much more in a storm.
Google awning, sun sail in a storm, and that can happen more often than you think.
Take a look at large awnings in the north / in the mountains, they are all supported at the end and the profiles look like they come from bridge construction.
We have decided on a rollable electric sun sail, which is now perfect for us.
Best regards, Nida

For a size of almost 25sqm!!! I would never have chosen an awning either, if then two separate ones. 25sqm is huge and in use in my opinion less comfortable than two separate ones. I don't think you necessarily needed the entire depth to cover the whole terrace.
