The current awning is operated by a crank. I find that okay because fewer things can break, but we will get another awning and I would like the luxury of pressing a button :D Also, I am thinking about a storm retraction function and of course that only works with a motor. So there will be 2 new ones ... and I always appreciate it when technical parts in the house are the same because it keeps things more manageable ...

I’m chiming in here because this topic is also relevant to me this or next year: Up to what size would you choose an awning, and from when would you opt for a pergola awning? We will soon have a terrace facing southwest measuring 6x5m. I would like to enable shading over the entire width and also as much as possible over the depth, so that about 10 people can comfortably sit underneath. Therefore, a depth of 4-5m is also necessary.

At the end of the 80s, my parents had 2 pieces of 5m wide awnings with a 3m extension mounted on their house. In the early 2000s, one of these awnings was replaced by a conservatory and moved to our former terraced house. From the mid-2010s, the mechanism started to become somewhat creakier and more yielding, and the seams of the fabric came apart. This was also related to the fact that the awning was sometimes used as rain protection, which apparently shortens its lifespan. The other awning at my parents' house still works. Brand Weinor.

Ours is 6x4m, I didn't want any posts on the terrace back then. In hindsight, I would have decided differently because it is quite windy here, and we often had to retract the awning quite a bit during the summer heat out of fear for the articulated arms. And what I would definitely consider with a south/west orientation is the low sun. Here, the sun comes through under the awning from the late afternoon onwards. Fortunately, we have a roller blind integrated at the front of the awning that can be rolled down. This way, we still have shade while our neighbors sit in the sun under their awning without this roller blind.

I have a Markilux 5010 (electric, full cassette) with 5m width and 4m projection, which I probably won't really need anymore soon. 2 years old, condition accordingly like new. Advance payment, is there interest? :D

The day after tomorrow (if the weather is good), an electric pergola awning 6.50 meters with a 4.5 meter projection, integrated LED lighting, and a side vertical awning will be installed for us. We have chosen an Erhardt awning with a Somfy motor and Somfy Tahoma control.
