Well, I wasn't aware of it either! It is definitely quieter than a PC fan, but you can hear something. As I said, with the flat panel it is louder and annoying, with the round panel I hear nothing at all. And our panel was not exactly from the cheap kind.

The technology is simply completely different from that of a conventional cooktop or ceramic hob. With induction, the control electronics must be cooled, and every manufacturer solves this, depending on the price segment, somewhat differently; therefore, it is louder with one and almost inaudible with another. And I say, hearing is different for everyone, so the volume is also perceived differently by each individual. You write, if I understood correctly, that you only need the hob occasionally as an addition. If so, I would think carefully about buying a conventional hob. True, the fans are somewhat louder, but for occasional use I think it's bearable.

I occasionally work with induction in electroplating when melting sn. A water circuit is cooled there to dissipate the heat at the coil. I should have figured that out. :-) only at work there is simply a different base noise level.

So honestly, I don't want any noise at this spot at all. I let some dishes simmer "quietly" for hours... :D and then constantly a fan noise on top of that??? I definitely don't want that... not even quietly...

For our future kitchen, we actually wanted to have an induction stove... but after this information here, we will look very carefully...

Then take an induction cooktop, I am absolutely sure you will not want to miss it anymore. If you consider this, I would advise testing different models at the kitchen studio, you will find differences....ok...also in price.
