Just quickly sear something with a heavy cast iron pot (200+ degrees) and then touch the ceramic cooktop. ;)

The most common damage is almost always because the MOSFETs in the power section have become too hot. This is usually due to too little space being left between the countertop cutout and the ventilation outlets.

Just a quick note on the original question: I also have two of these plates. Different manufacturers, similar price range, the noise is the same for both.

However, I have also been able to cook on the gastro version of such a cooktop: there, the fan noise was significantly quieter, although not as quiet as on the built-in cooktop. But these devices cost about 10 times as much.

Cheap stand-alone cooktops have the disadvantage of sometimes taking ages until the power actually reaches the pot. If you want to heat up a 15-liter pot of soup with them, you need a lot of patience. For camping with larger groups (tea, pasta water for 20 people), the induction plates were an extreme comfort improvement compared to gas and heating coil cooktops. But the slight noise doesn’t really bother then. So everything has its pros and cons...
