Hi,

I am currently planning an Ikea kitchen for our new house and keep encountering in the planner that an induction hob can only be installed in a 3.8 cm thick countertop. Why is that, and is there maybe a way around it somewhere?

The selection of 3.8 cm thick countertops is unfortunately very limited. For me, only a laminate countertop comes into question, and visually I only like the Ekbacken series (preferably the dark walnut reproduction).
Why is the Ekbacken countertop not available in 3.8 cm? Induction is becoming more and more popular, so they should offer more compatible countertops.

Another question occurred to me:
If I order the kitchen online, can I also order matching Personlig wall panels together with the countertop, or do I have to order them necessarily in the Ikea store?

I would be happy if someone could maybe give me answers, because these questions have been bothering me for months and I haven’t found any answer on the WWW so far, and the IKEA contact point has not replied to me.
The nearest IKEA store is very hard to reach from where we are, so going there to ask is rather not an option. I am already looking forward to when the store in Bremerhaven finally opens in spring, then it will be easier.

Hello,

there are also induction cooktops that require only 29 mm countertop thickness, e.g. [Miele KM 6323] - but probably many other cooktops as well, also from other manufacturers. In any case, you should follow the installation instructions, as induction cooktops usually need active fans for cooling and therefore require certain installation conditions. Otherwise, the warranty will be void and safe operation may no longer be guaranteed.
Regards,
IKEA-Friend

PS: [AEG] also has cooktops that work with a minimum countertop thickness of 12 mm ...

Crucial for the countertop thickness are the installation instructions, minimum clearance to components underneath, oven intermediate shelf with pull-outs.

And yes, the more power such an induction cooktop has, the larger the fans usually are.

You can circumvent many things Metod cabinet, 2.8 cm countertop, 10 cm panel, oven, also 10 cm panel below, unfortunately then no drawer fits at the bottom anymore at Ikea, the old drawer under the oven from Faktum probably would have fit.

One more tip, if you violate the installation instructions, the manufacturers usually reject the warranty.

Decisive for the countertop thickness are the installation instructions, minimum distance to underlying components, oven middle shelf with drawers.

And yes, the more power such an induction cooktop has, the larger usually the fans are.

You can get around a lot: method cabinet, 2.8 cm countertop, 10 cm panel, oven, also 10 cm panel underneath, unfortunately then no drawer fits at the bottom at Ikea, the old drawer under the oven from Faktum would probably have fit.

One more tip: if you violate the installation instructions, manufacturers usually deny the warranty.[/Quote]

I fully agree with Zetterberg, Ikea doesn’t joke about that either, the same applies to insurance in case of a fire.

So better no suitable solution with an aperture? Of course, I don’t want to get into trouble with the insurance in case of fire!

Does anyone know if it is possible to install countertops from the hardware store or if they do not fit on an IKEA kitchen?

If you install a 10 cm trim above the oven as Zetterberg described, there probably won't be any problems. It depends on what the manufacturer of the cooktop requires. Since the trim provides more than enough distance between the cooktop and the oven and there are probably sufficient gaps above and below the trim, it should work. Check the user manual.

It depends on the dimensions of the countertop. With the front, a base cabinet is about 61 cm deep if installed without a hanging rail. So the countertop should be about 63 cm deep. In the hardware store, you will only get this as a custom-made countertop. I suspect it is more expensive than a custom-made countertop from IKEA.
