Hi everyone,

has anyone of you had experience with moving/shifting a Metod kitchen?
We want to move a kitchen line of about 5 meters by 5 cm to use a new fridge.
Unfortunately, the new one is a bit wider than the old one. We don't have any tall or wall cabinets.

Thanks and regards

Normally, you can move the thing if you clear everything out and loosen the fixtures to the wall or wall rail. It gets difficult if the back panels of the carcasses are cut very precisely for connections and sockets. There must be no connection behind the dishwasher after moving it, and an exactly cut siphon pipe might need to be replaced/extended. I would also unhook all fronts and drawers to make the kitchen unit easier to move.

It will be a major effort if the base cabinets are screwed to a countertop that is silicone-sealed to the wall, as silicone holds very firmly together. Also note that the alignment of the gap lines of the wall cabinets may not match the base cabinets after the action. Furthermore, the mounting strip will be too long on one side and too short on the other. At the end where the rear strip is missing, I would simply anchor the cupboard angle directly to the wall, and at the other end, use a small angle grinder to cut off the excess wall strip. You won’t get there with a saw either if the whole thing including all cabinets is not to be dismantled.

First of all, thanks for your reply! The screwed worktop that is connected to the wall at the back with silicone also gave me the most headaches. I can't complain about the quality of METOD, but I'm afraid that especially the worktop may no longer be as tight when screwed in for the second time as it was the first time. The wall rail shouldn't cause any problems since we have left exactly as much on the right as we need. And on the side where there is more wall rail, it’s not so bad because the fridge will be standing in front of it anyway. Well, once we have carried out this project, I’d be happy to share the experience :D

You don't need to worry about the strength of the countertop, it is screwed down multiple times. It's just a matter of time. And you should also be able to re-silicone; if you work with silicone for the first time, it can be a very frustrating task.
