Ikea Metod/corner upper cabinet, why no 30/50 grid?

A friend is planning a new kitchen. It will be the new Metod. The layout is an L shape, with one leg measuring only 1.60 meters, which must be completely filled. A Drehkarussell 87.5, 60 cm and what now...? Corner wall cabinet 70 cm and then...? On the Austria side, only 20/40/60/80 grids are offered. The odd 20 cm measurement is relatively purposeless and is definitely out of the question. It is clear that Ikea is streamlining its product range. That is nice for the company, bad for the customers. They do advertise with the following slogan: ....You can make the smallest corner useful.... I would like to know from the forum and its experts how this is possible without 30/50 cm.

Hello Napp,

I believe many have already been annoyed that there are no more 30 and 50 cabinets. And a 20 is only limitedly practical. However, as a pull-out, you can quite sensibly use it for standing vinegar, oil, and other bottles.
Personally, I would rather not plan a carousel base cabinet, but a blind corner and pull-out cabinets instead.

With a blind corner, however, you have to consider that you still need a few centimeters of filler strip so that the pull-outs with the handles can pass each other.

Hello everyone,

in my opinion, this is really a major weakness of the Metod system.

Even Faktum did not offer an optimal grid division, as there were no 45 cm or 15 cm cabinets like with other kitchen manufacturers. Metod with its 20 cm division is really not optimal. In the worst case, almost 20 cm, that is 19.9999..... cm of a wall remain unused. Then, despite having a fitted kitchen, you have to improvise with shelves.
Is that really beneficial for the uniform design line that Metod advertises? Well!
Filler strips may help visually, but storage space remains unused.

So my not entirely serious suggestion: Anyone building a house should first plan the Ikea kitchen and then have their architect design the house around it. Then the Metod grid will definitely fit.

Best regards

Miss Marple: Ikea will no longer be an option for many who have exactly one space problem and cannot or do not want to give up a maximum of 19.9 cm. The past teaches that it is a big mistake to believe that one (and Metod) is irreplaceable, especially since the problem is only due to reduced inventory management. It is almost laughable that designers and development teams worked on the construction of Metod for 5 whole years and that the success is then more or less necessarily subordinated to accountants. We will see how the Metod thing develops in the long term. As long as there are no more 30/50 units, at least two Metod kitchens will not be purchased from my immediate circle. These are just two, I know, but these non-buyers are not alone, but tens of thousands....... , who for various reasons cannot plan their kitchen in the simple 20/40/60/80 grid. Incidentally, I also regret that the 90 cm high wall cabinets were removed from the program, but I can still somehow understand that.

The only plinth height of 8 cm is another major drawback of METOD. However, at 160 cm with a 90 cm corner cabinet, I see no advantage with FAKTUM. The remaining 70 cm could only be filled with 40 cm 30 cm. This is not a real gain compared to a 60 cm wide cabinet, especially when the cabinets have drawers.

Also for fur, the too coarse grid is the reason why we cannot buy an IKEA kitchen. It just doesn't fit. Hopefully one or the other product manager is reading here, I could imagine that there have already been quite a few discussions on this topic within Ikea itself. And maybe you will reconsider.
