Good day dear Ikea fans.
My bedroom is exactly 3m wide (ceiling height about 2.55m). I know many have a problem with the height, but I don’t think that is an issue for me.
However, the 3m room width is causing me headaches. I have already ordered everything and had it delivered to me. I should have probably read through everything more carefully beforehand, but somehow you always overlook something.
So it is like this: according to the instructions for assembling the sliding doors, 5cm of space to the side is required. However, as I said, my room is EXACTLY 3m wide from skirting board to skirting board, just like the wardrobes. I can’t make 5cm. If I am lucky, I gain about 4cm by removing the skirting boards and building the wardrobe flush to the right. What confuses me is that sometimes the instructions say that you don’t need space and sometimes they say you do. It seems that the 300cm version MUST be hung from the side, but I don’t understand why this is not the case with the other versions.
Here is the instruction manual for the version I have:
That the space is needed is stated on page 5. I suspect the relevant part is on page 25 (step 28).
I am turning to you who have already built the wardrobe: How realistic is the 5cm? Is there another possibility, for example to first hang the rear door and then hang the front door over it? I just don’t understand why the door absolutely has to be hung from the side or why the 5cm space to the side is necessary. Could it perhaps only be for the fingers?
Then maybe less space would suffice, my skirting boards are each about 1.5-2.5cm thick, which would maybe gain about 4cm of space if I’m lucky. If I build it slightly twisted, maybe I gain a bit more. But exactly how much I will only know when the carcass is built and the baseboards are removed.
Do you have any trick? I have already calculated: I cannot build the wardrobe somewhere else and then “turn” it in, because 307cm would be needed then (diagonal between the corners).
Please please help me, I am really going crazy. Returning the doors is hardly possible for me. I would have to pay €60 for the return shipping plus new shipping costs for the new hinge doors. Besides, the sliding doors are important to my girlfriend. She absolutely wants them.
I have already spoken to the hotline, the lady was nice but she didn’t really help me. Here I hope for your ingenuity.
*Addition* By the way: For example, in this instruction manual the note about the required space to the side is missing:
No idea what is different with this version that no space is needed.
