Dear Ikea Pros

I am currently planning my kitchen and having quite a few problems with it. My kitchen Ikea kvadrat beech is over 20 years old, since next year Faktum will be discontinued, it now needs to be renewed. Some cabinets are still in great shape, so I only want to replace all Kvadrat fronts and the countertop and buy a few new cabinets.
I need some tips for that, it would be great if you could help me.
1. We still have real cast iron radiator panels, the pipes run 10 cm in front of the wall, so the 62 cm deep countertop is not enough, mine is currently 68 cm deep. I would like to use a Numerär solid wood countertop. Can you add a piece behind the cooktop about 1 m long? A custom-made countertop is too expensive for me, and I can’t wait that long.
2. Can I use an existing regular 60 cm base cabinet for the sink and install a pull-out with door opener for waste separation inside it?
3. I will definitely have the kitchen delivered, but assembly would not be possible at a fixed price because of the old cabinets that are to be reused. According to Ikea, the assembly would then cost €80/h, how long do the installers usually need for a 5 m kitchen?

One more silly question about the Ikea kitchen planner, I’m not really getting the hang of it. Since our Ikea Kvadrat kitchen basically has a slanted ceiling that is not at a right angle, I drew in partition walls for it. But now you can no longer look into the kitchen during the planning, only from above. Is there a way to make the walls "transparent" like normal walls?

Thanks a lot and best regards

Hello,

if your Kvadrat kitchen was purchased around summer 1996, then the fronts still have different drillings for the drawers/pulls. Additionally, the fronts had slots for the bottom panel, which the new ones would have to be fitted with. Replacing the fronts will take longer if the old pulls are used.
I would definitely replace the drawers. Back then, they were only partial extensions and they ran terribly poorly.

That's right, IKEA expert, good tip. The drawers should definitely be replaced, the installers will not use the old drawers because of the different construction.

Best regards

Thank you very much for your tips! That already helps me a bit. I have now actually managed to get an appointment for a full planning; the money will be refunded if the kitchen is expensive enough. I’m still thinking about the countertop, maybe I won’t take wood after all, but laminate and will look for extra-wide boards at the hardware store. Custom-made will definitely be too expensive at about 5m, the kitchen keeps moving with us, but not the countertop. And I always somehow live with makeshifts anyway. Besides, I still have the problem that I can’t make the countertop in one piece because between the cooktop and corner cabinet there is a window with the (25 cm deep) radiator underneath, so a cutout would have to be made to allow the air to circulate and I also need access to the window sometimes. I will probably put in a piece of countertop with legs that can be taken out as needed. It’s not optimal, but otherwise too much space would be wasted. We might do the assembly ourselves if I can convince my husband, otherwise it would get pretty expensive. The tip about the drawers is great, the kitchen was kind of created through several moves between 1992-1999, the drawer cabinet has been there from the very beginning. So thanks again and best regards rosalili
