Thank you all for the help! True to the motto "nothing ventured, nothing gained," we will send a bid that makes sense for us and then wait. If we get outbid, it's a pity, but then we probably couldn't afford it anyway. Then we'll just keep looking. If I find out how it turned out, I'll get back to you here!

You must not let yourself get worked up about it. I would make a serious bid and then wait. From experience, many bidders also drop out because they either had other irons in the fire or get cold feet when their "fun bid" suddenly has to be taken seriously. Especially with demolition work, not everyone has experience or the necessary overview. Under no circumstances would I go up to my limit. And if there really is someone who wants the property at any price, then as a reasonable bidder, there is nothing you can do anyway. Good luck!

We have unfortunately had the same experience with other properties before. Then someone comes for whom money is no object, and suddenly the property was gone.

Hello, I wanted to give you an update: unfortunately, we received a rejection. Interestingly, not because of the amount of our bid ("a higher bid wouldn't have changed anything"), but because the community of heirs prefers to sell to someone who will leave the old house standing. I had not considered such a reason for rejection at all. I cautiously asked about the sale price and am curious if they will tell me.

aha

whether that is included in the purchase contract and if it can be legally contested if it is ever demolished :)

What a variety of things there are... Then the [Erbengemeinschaft] can always drop by and enjoy the preserved house, or what? They are giving up a higher bid for that? Well, some very clever ones must have been involved...
