First, I would choose or eliminate the type, meaning tile yes or no, laminate/vinyl yes or no, etc. Then you should definitely visit a showroom (possibly also department stores, model homes, or similar) to see the general effect of color/pattern or light/dark on large surfaces. We went through all the floors but somehow realized that it should be something with wood. Only at the end did we eliminate the oiled wooden floor because the maintenance effort is obviously considerable on large surfaces. So that was a deal-breaker criterion and currently we have a great oak parquet from the company Meister in 2nd choice but top quality. I already wrote it here once, exactly that is what we will do again in the new house. I would definitely not rely only on pragmatic things because the floor is important, and for me it simply has to look great but also remain affordable.
