I see it differently than Weimy, of course 12m2 is not much, but if you have five children, you just have to make compromises. You can't allocate 100m2 just for children's rooms. Although I also find 20m2 excessively large, you can create something cozy with less space, even for teenagers. Although I would have even expected smaller rooms, with five children's rooms. But I might have made one or two large "playrooms" myself and then smaller bedrooms for two kids together.

Hello,

I was also not sure whether our children's rooms in the new house, each with around 17 sqm of floor area (living space each about 15.5 sqm due to the sloping roof), are not a bit small.

For fun, I then measured my children's room in my parents' house – it was "only" just over 10 sqm. My "teenage room" in the later converted attic also had "only" 15 sqm and was more than sufficient.

In my opinion, children's rooms with 15 - 18 sqm are still sufficient today.

At the latest when the children have left the house and then possibly live in a shared flat or a small apartment during their studies or as young professionals, they will sorely miss the previously experienced "luxury" (by that I mean not only the living space but also the fact that they suddenly have to consider other people besides the family, etc.).

Regards,

Dirk

Our children's rooms are 16m². I actually think that's quite decent. But I also don't find 12m² bad. The expectations today are already quite generous. Children usually don't need that much. Sure, more is always nice but not really necessary. The period during which the children use the space for playing is rather short. Often, they play where the parents are anyway. And when they are at the point where they want to be away from the parents, they don't need that much space anymore... But of course, with smaller children's rooms, you tend to have more toys, for example, in the living room. Not everyone wants that. When I think back to my own childhood, I didn't even have 12m²...

We have three almost equally sized children's rooms, each 15sqm. I had that much myself as a child.

I find that absolutely sufficient.

Hello, the size of the children's room is of course a matter of opinion and taste. We looked at furnished children's rooms in a prefabricated house exhibition and the ones we liked were about 18-20 sqm. It is of course also a question of budget.

I myself had a small room as a child and hated it because I couldn't put anything decent in it.

But here it is also about the question of how storage space can be created in houses without basements. Since we are also facing this problem and I have always been in favor of cellars and still am, I am very interested in good suggestions. A utility room of about 22 sqm is not nearly enough for us.

Best regards from Simone

Hello Simone, is there a possibility for you to provide an oversized garage? Alternatively, some manufacturers of precast concrete garages also offer quite clever standalone or attachable storage rooms for a garage. Regards, Dirk
