Hello,

we originally wanted to build with a basement, which unfortunately probably won't happen due to the soil. We simply need storage space. We are collectors and not throwers-away. With a house, that won't suddenly change, I have to be honest with myself.

Where do you store things that you don't put in the broom closet?
What interesting storage spaces are there besides the obligatory utility room, which is already half full with technology and washing machine and also shouldn't necessarily hold junk, and the attic? Where do you have your hobby workshop?
What do your solutions look like?

I would be very happy about a few suggestions, maybe even with plans or pictures.

Edit:
We are building with a [Pultdach] and thus without an attic
We will have no garage or carport

Just get over yourself and throw away all the crap that has accumulated but is never needed again. Then the utility room and a "basement" in the attic will be enough. You really don't "need" more storage space. Crafting is done in the garden shed or in the office in the attic. We have been living in the new house since May, miss nothing, and wonder what is still packed in all the boxes in the attic – even though we already disposed of some cubic meters when moving out.

We have a utility room with over 12m2 directly next to the kitchen. The technology (heat pump, connections, etc.) is in a separate room next to the entrance. Under the stairs, we have our "broom cupboard." Additionally, we planned our upper floor (high knee wall, 42-degree roof pitch) so that we still get a proper attic, which is accessible via a steeper staircase. There we then have a lot of storage space again: 2 rooms with over 20m2 + hallway. And in the garden, there will be a larger garden house with 2 rooms for bicycles, tools, and outdoor toys for the kids.

That sounds so simple. The people who write in the subforum "Baufinanzierung" that despite a good income they have no equity because they have lived well and gone on many vacations, but suddenly want to save a lot with a house, are also told that this is probably unrealistic once you get used to such a lifestyle. Honestly, I see it similarly here.

We have a fairly large attic that is also easy to walk in, as it is high enough. Besides the building services room, which is largely occupied by the building services themselves, we have a fairly large kitchen, so we can store all the food supplies in appropriate cabinets. Additionally, we have walled off a small room under the stairs that has to be used for vacuum cleaners, brooms, strollers, and other things. Upstairs, we also have a small storage room (approx. 2.5m²). Furthermore, in my double carport (6*9m), the last 3.5m is currently being converted into a 21m² equipment room for bicycles, garden furniture, etc. Then we should actually be quite well supplied.
It is also advisable to promptly sell items that are no longer needed via flea markets, ads, Ebay Classifieds, Facebook flea markets. Items usually do not become more valuable if they sit around for a long time...

We also live with a large attic (approx. 40 m2). In terms of space, absolutely sufficient, only the carrying up via the pull-out ladder is a bit tedious. But that leads to more conscious storage.

Until the end of last year, we also had a (completely full) basement. It is as described by the previous speakers, most of it could safely be thrown away (instead of putting it in the basement and forgetting it).

Ultimately, we could fill every available storage space if we wanted to. By type, we are also more like collectors. But regularly decluttering also has something incredibly liberating; we have been doing it this way for a year now.

Regarding the questions:

[*]The pointed arch currently serves as storage space:
    - Windows protrude, possibly a space-saving staircase instead of pull-out ladder.
    - The roof is still being insulated; we have had radiators planned. Unheated, things do go bad (-10 to +30 degrees) due to condensation and heat.
    - Seasonal goods are stored (autumn, Easter, Christmas decorations), "memories," clothing (summer/winter)

[*]The workshop is also in the attic but will soon be moved to the garage, which will get a small stove.
[*]The utility room will get a well-fitting corner shelving system, then an incredible amount will fit in there.
