When we were looking for a plot, it was always clear to us: we would build without a basement... And then came our hillside property... Well, and that naturally resulted in the basement. Raising the ground would have cost almost the same. :o At least if done the way we wanted. And now we have a half living basement where an office can be accommodated later (currently still a bike room) and a large wellness room with a sauna. :D (if it ever gets finished someday). But nowadays it’s simply no longer a must.

We have deliberately decided against a basement. We took an inventory of our current basement in our current house and found the following: Many things were unnecessarily moved twice and will be discarded. The laundry area is going to be relocated upstairs anyway. Then there was a couch left, which will go into the children's room. The refrigerator will go into the utility room, the shoes into the wardrobe, the bicycles into the garage, and the file collection into my wife's office. Then we had a virtually empty room – and since the living area will grow from just under 95 sqm to 176 sqm, there will also be more space, plus closed plastic boxes will be placed in the attic – there is also about 15 sqm allocated there for stuff.

We also definitely wanted a basement. After we knew the price, we looked at basements with various people... Now there's no heating etc., it is in the large garage, laundry room on the upper floor, and storage in the room above the garage. And even there I could imagine doing without it. But I am very strict about accumulating things and regularly auction off on eBay. Unfortunately, my husband thinks differently :-) Garden tools in the basement? I find that impractical.

We don't have a basement either. If I had the money for it, I would rather invest it in a nice conservatory, that way you get more out of it.

And music room, guest room, large office, hobby room also in the garden? :D don't get me wrong, but some people actually use the basement as living space, with daylight windows and extensive underfloor heating. For garden tools, an extension is built onto the garage ;) we love our basement and certainly don't hoard things there, but have real living spaces in addition to a utility room and a storage room....would never want to do without it

Conservatories....wasn't that super trendy in the 90s? :) I find such glass tumors on the house facade terrible. But that shows how much taste and sense diverge, and that's a good thing too
