I rather observe a certain tendency (> 60%) for the basement here. Less than the originally estimated 80% by me, but still a clear majority.
What I would be interested in: Are those who built without a basement happy with their decision or did they regret it later? And conversely, those who built with a basement, are they satisfied or do they think in hindsight that it was actually a waste of money?
I don't think you will get an evaluable answer. One group builds a basement out of conviction (more space, no matter what for, even for bulky waste), the other prefers it more efficiently, targeted usable space and then also makes more compromises because of comfort. These are attitudes towards life - the one who builds the basement out of conviction is happy to have it. The comfort lovers are happy every day not to have to go underground.
If you have both options, you should be clear about what you prefer: more space or more comfort.
