well, with 450 for cigarettes you at least save on retirement provision.... but seriously, have you ever thought about vaping? At least somewhat healthier and especially significantly cheaper when mixing yourself.

Yes, no one dictates anyone’s lifestyle...it would have said 450 euros for expensive hobby XY...fine. But 450 euros for such highly stupid stuff like cigarettes/alcohol. I would refuse to help any further at all. I can’t understand how one’s own intelligence allows something like that.

It’s nice that you see it that way and it is also your opinion. If you don’t want to help or refuse to do so in this regard, then you can also save yourself further comments in this thread.

Quote:
Stiftung Warentest June 2020 (small excerpt):

This is what science says
Considering a short duration of use, vaping is currently less harmful to health than smoking according to research. However, almost nothing is known about long-term effects. Typical respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, or COPD occur in users – less frequently than in smokers, but more often than in non-users. These diseases occur most frequently when someone uses both e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes.
Not all risks of vaping have been sufficiently studied. For example, flavorings – of which there is an overwhelmingly large number – are suspected of causing airway inflammation when inhaled. It is also not excluded that e-cigarette use facilitates the formation of blood clots or that e-cigarette aerosol promotes inflammation and leads to higher oxidative stress. Fine dust, metals, and flavors could also cause cardiovascular problems.

So I would not advertise it as being healthier. For me as a non-smoker, the only advantage I see is that it doesn't stink as badly as with a smoker and you can identify smokers by the smell of their clothes in the elevator.

We are not talking about what the OP can/must give up when building, but about the status quo. You know some people who handle money differently when they build/buy a house. I know some who cannot handle it differently and regret having bought a house because they had to adjust their lifestyle to the house.

It is clear that it is affordable. But when I look at the bare numbers, I find it quite tight.

The numbers correspond quite closely to ours. Household net income currently without special payments 4100 EUR, in about two years about 4400 EUR. However, the item cigarettes does not apply to us. The 450 € per month is really brutal. I also cannot give up nicotine yet and have been vaping for about 4 years for around 25-30 € per month. Have you considered rolling/stuffing as an alternative? I used to waste a lot of money senselessly as well, but I couldn’t do that anymore today. When I read this, it seems we can afford somewhat more than 300 K, especially since we also have a bit more equity. Thanks for the thread. Finally someone who has “normal” numbers.

Smoking itself is (albeit a very costly) private pleasure. Two to three packs a day is more than intense. However, when there is a small child in the family who is so massively affected, I find no words anymore...
