I had a north+west terrace in the old house. The north side was sunny in the morning because the sun shone from the east. The west side was shady in the morning, and then sometime from noon until sunset the sun hit it and it became really hot. During that time, you could sit comfortably on the north side. And the north side also had sun again from the west in the evening.

Currently, I have a northeast terrace as the large main terrace at the house. In addition, there is a southwest terrace in front of the house and another small terrace without connection to the house in the north of the property – but the sun shines on it from sunrise to sunset.

I would always work with different seating areas if the property allows it.

Without surroundings, you really can't say anything here. Show me the plan with aerial image from the Bayernatlas including surroundings. Radius at least 100m. Photos of the property are also quite helpful. The street has sections without a gradient, right?

According to your information, the terrain should slope like this.

Very steep in the area of the garage entrance. This makes a boundary garage difficult.

It is illogical that there is such an irregular slope at the street.

The positioning is really not that easy.

Your concern is unfounded. We have our terrace facing west. In the morning, we just have to move a bit more to the south. From around 11:00 AM, the sun shines on the terrace until the evening (currently 7:45 PM). If the neighbor's house were a bit lower, it would even be until about 8:30 PM. In midsummer, it disappears behind the neighbor's house around 9:30 PM.

By now, everyone here has shading on their south-facing terrace. It must also be said clearly again that south-facing terraces do not get sun in the evenings. Terraces are also not meant for basking in the sun in your own garden like on vacation. 1. People usually prefer their lawn garden or a spot in another corner of the garden for that. 2. In everyday life, you don’t even want the sun because it simply interferes with daily tasks. When planning, I like to separate window and terrace use: windows preferably in the south so you get light and warmth inside from October to Easter, and the terrace preferably in the west or north so you can still catch some sun rays in the evenings during summer days. Everyone has to see for themselves how they organize their daily life and day. Those who often plan coffee visits from grandparents should have a terrace that is somewhat shaded. Those who have free time during the day and like to sunbathe will have their deck chair somewhere other than the dining area for grilling. If I were to build again, I would plan a small south-facing terrace, but would focus more on west/northwest. West, however, has the disadvantage of wind, but you can also counteract that with plants and elements. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t planted on their terrace at their single-family house to make it cozier.
