House orientation - south or west?

But always facing south, is ideal with good shading. West is too hot in summer, otherwise too shady and on the weather side windy.

I always tend to prefer multiple seating options - in the summer evenings, a north-facing direction is also suitable for sunset/sundowner

It always depends: I find south ideal with normal shading; west works well with covered seating; furthermore, in spring and autumn you have the longest sunshine in the west for sitting outside.

Every corner has its pros and cons. However, I agree that in hot weather a west-facing terrace without a solid roof becomes way too hot.
