Hello dear community,
I am facing a pretty complicated challenge and hope I am in the right place to find help (or maybe you know where I should best turn to). My girlfriend and I are currently in the middle of building a house and have planned a rather creative floor lighting for our living room. We made 2 holes in the floor, one with a diameter of 25cm and the other 30cm (see [Bild], although only one hole is visible in the photo).
These holes should be covered with a plexiglass plate which is screwed in place; inside the holes there should be a decoration that can be changed as desired, so the plexiglass plate must be removable at any time. Around the plexiglass plate, a mosaic of marble tiles (approx. 10cm wide) will be laid, and around these tiles, glued parquet flooring will be installed matching the rest of the living area.
I now have the following questions:
- Which plexiglass should I use? Or safety glass? It definitely needs to be load-bearing.
- How is the transition between parquet and tiles made? Acrylic?
- How is the transition between tiles and plexiglass plate made? Grout? Acrylic?
- How should I fix the plexiglass plate to the floor so that a) I don’t see the ugly screed under the plate and b) I can build lighting with LEDs or similar
- How do I ensure that the lighting of the hole is only indirectly visible? LED strips?
Oh god, just reading the questions makes me feel sick again...that’s what happens when you listen to your girlfriend without thinking first :-)
I hope you can help me at least a little! Thanks in advance,
Greetings from Vienna
Stefan
