Our carpenter recently complained about exactly that, along with a 30% cost increase. Steel seems to show a similar price trend in some cases.

I was actually quite surprised that there isn’t already a thread about this here. I’m pretty glad that most of the material has already been installed at our site.

If one fears this as a lasting trend, of course one fills up their storage, and the effect multiplies.

What you see lying in the forest is mostly firewood. (We have a forest and let wood be cut for firewood). Here in the region, construction timber is almost immediately transported away and dried. And yes, it is difficult to find good construction timber. The oaks are still somewhat acceptable, the beeches too, but they are hardly in demand, and the conifers are almost all no longer usable. The young trees have suffered extremely in the last 10 years. Almost all the spruces are done for. The older ones have almost all been utilized.

The stuff in the forest is almost all firewood. Take a look at the [Holzimporte]

But that is simply unusable, as the structure is so destroyed due to dryness and bark beetles.

Take a look at the report from PlusMinus about it. I think it's about 7 minutes long.

The forecasts for the steel price are also rising. You hear things like 20%. From my point of view, the bigger problem will not be the higher price itself, but rather getting the desired material at all due to reduced production capacities. I am curious what 2021 will bring.
