You don’t mow the lawn yourself, do you? Even though it looks good, the many spots where I can’t reach with the mower would annoy me.

YPG, can you tell me what it looks like in winter? Are these plants opaque? You know what I mean? Because if I'm nicely protected behind them only in summer but then on display in winter, I'll have to consider other plants... I really like the look!

We also have a fully grown-in garden. But only in the summer. Not anymore in the winter. It really doesn’t bother at all, since we are rather not in the garden in winter. So not at all..

Is it different for others?

Of course, I am not in the garden in winter....but I have a huge window front without venetian blinds or anything like that and therefore I do not want people to be able to see me completely from the street in winter.....therefore I need something that also has "mass" in winter and for example not a hornbeam which is very nice but "naked" in winter....

You actually see the winter view in the photos, even though they were taken spontaneously yesterday. Both hornbeam and copper beech only lose the dry leaves in April/May while the new ones grow. You can see through them a bit in winter, which is important to me because of moss infestation in shade during the dark season. Also, the exterior appearance is very important here because it doesn’t look opaque from outside -> burglary protection! But a pedestrian would have to stop to look through. During the day, the reflection in the windows prevents looking inside; in the evening, we have the shutters down.
I’ll take one or two photos showing how to further protect the view, namely from the hedge side/footpath.
The only thing that’s a bit annoying now is the foliage [emoji6]

The terrace from the lawn side: evergreen bamboo with 2-meter-high grasses between (grasses were cut in March)

And now from the footpath side:

Ronny, my husband mows himself.
But I would like to shorten the corners with bushes and have my vegetable garden in one corner, also so he has less to do (e.g. framing a rock garden near the fire bowl with rhododendrons etc.), but it doesn’t bother him and he manages with a battery mower. That’s what he says. Twice a week is fine for him, it’s also a way to balance out his office sitting [emoji2]
