Hi DIYer,

yes, that is certainly true. Often, time is the reason why people don’t feel like spending a long time in the kitchen after a hard day. But there are plenty of dishes that don’t require much time. It’s not about having to eat high-quality food all the time, but every now and then a good meal, prepared yourself: everyone can make time for that. Additionally, it helps to recharge your energy for the demanding work.

Junk food is basically free of vitamins, minerals, etc. But these are exactly what the human body needs in order to function. If a person suffers from a deficiency of important substances for a long time, they will become weak and also susceptible to all kinds of illnesses.

The effects are gradual. You might only notice the consequences after many years.

Best regards,
Gartenbau ;)

hi,

well, I also work 8 hours a day, and yet I am able to cook my own food. often it’s just about setting priorities. when I think about how much better a home-cooked meal is compared to canned food, I have to say: this time investment pays off 100%!

best regards,
yung ;)

Farmers' Markets

Hi!

Yung is right: it doesn't take that much time to cook something yourself. Certainly more than throwing a frozen pizza in the oven, always! But in the end, it pays off in every respect.

I would like to share one more tip: if you care about the quality of fruits and vegetables, you shouldn't buy them in the supermarket. I can only advise everyone to ask around once where and when farmers' markets take place in their hometown. Because there you usually find fresh vegetables from the region. And not even at high prices. Furthermore, this fruit and vegetables stay fresh much longer, which ultimately saves money because you don't have to throw anything away just because it molds after 1-2 days or the leaves (e.g., of lettuce) become wilted.

Best regards,
Gartenbau :)

Hello,

I rarely buy vegetables at the supermarket, but I have to say: it's true that, for example, the lettuce doesn't last very long. Usually, it's already totally limp when you buy it... so you can start by removing all the outer leaves and throwing them in the trash...

Hi,

of course, the very best is when you have your own garden where you can grow all sorts of things, and you should always strive to cover your own need for fruits and vegetables as much as possible. You really don't need much space to supply a family of four yourself.

But if you don't have a garden, then, as gardening has already mentioned, there is the possibility to look around at various farmers’ markets: it pays off! Soon you will have found the farmers you trust, and then you also know who grew these products and how it was done.

You should always make sure to buy or eat seasonal vegetables and fruits. This is very important! For example, if you look at strawberries sold in April or even in winter, the appearance is very nice, but the taste is completely missing. :o

Best regards,

Homegrown tastes best!

Hi,

I have my own garden, and I can only say that nothing really tastes better than what you have grown, nurtured, cared for, and harvested yourself!

Cheers,
sennor :)
