Hello everyone,

we will start building soon and want to install a sliding glass door between the kitchen and living area that runs inside the wall. Are there good systems and manufacturers, and is there anything I should pay attention to?
Who has sliding doors running inside the wall and can recommend them?
I would rather pay a little more but have a stable system than install something cheap and have it break after a few years. Then I would have to tear out the wall.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Regards

Jayden

Hello Jayden, we are also getting a glass door running inside the wall in our house, but I cannot tell you which manufacturer. However, you need to keep in mind that the wall in which the door disappears becomes thicker than a normal wall. Thus, you will have a slight loss of available space and possibly a step in the wall if the wall reinforcement is not carried through to the next corner. Regards, Dirk

We will also have a sliding door running inside the wall between the kitchen and dining room in the new building, although we are not yet sure whether we will choose a full glass door or a wood/glass combination.

The system we are getting is, I believe, from Herholz. It is installed directly into the wall. So the shell builder will create a larger wall opening into which the system is then inserted. The part where the door slides into is clad with drywall. If I remember correctly, a 17 cm wall thickness is required.

The wood/glass combination should be around €1,500 in total.

Hello,

we have decided AGAINST a sliding door running inside the wall.

It may be that prejudices are also involved here, but we decided against it for the following reasons:

1. Should the door come off its track for any reason or any other damage occur to the mechanism, a replacement/repair might be difficult or too expensive (everything is inside the wall).
2. Even in a reasonably closed system, contamination eventually occurs (whether the popular dust bunnies, which over time clump together, or from minimally abraded metal shavings or possibly "stone dust" from the wall). In my opinion, cleaning/removal would be difficult here (how would you get the vacuum cleaner behind the door panel). This could lead to the running track becoming dirty or, in the worst case, blocked sooner or later.

It may be that these reasons are just prejudices and our lay opinion does not correspond to reality. For us, minimizing the risk of failure/damage was important, so we preferred to use an externally mounted sliding door.

Hello Masipulami,

can you maybe tell me which system it is from Herzolz? There are also masonry boxes from Knauf Krona or Eclisse or something like that?

Regards

Jayen
