Morning

I have finished the plumbing installation for the most part. The fittings are installed for a tile size of 30 x 90 cm or 60 x 60 cm. At the moment I am considering alternatively cladding the walls in the shower area with painted glass. Has anyone already implemented this and can share experiences and costs?

Hello Olli,

I can't offer you any experience with the shower, but in our kitchen, we replaced the "usual" tiled backsplash above the stove and work surfaces with painted glass.

The glass is an extremely low-maintenance alternative to tiles – precisely because it is a single smooth surface without grout lines.

In our experience, the costs depend, on the one hand, of course, on the installed glass area, but also on the necessary cutouts in the glass.

Since you will probably have significantly fewer light switches and sockets in the shower than we do in our kitchen walls :D, that shouldn't be a problem.

If I were you, I would ask your kitchen fitter which glazier he would recommend for your project and get a quote there.

Regards,

Dirk

Hi Dirk

Yes, the seamless surface is also the reason I am dealing with it. I asked a glazier yesterday. I am supposed to receive an offer by the end of next week for 12.7m² with 7 cutouts.

What about lime? Don’t you see a problem with it? Many want to do without glass partitions, but you are now planning additional glass. Why does one want to avoid tiles or grout?

Hi Yvonne

Limescale is not really a problem for us. Water hardness is 5.7°dH.
I can't always understand the renunciation of a glass wall.
Possible deposits such as limescale, for example, are not suddenly gone with tiles,
but just not as visible.
With painted glass instead of tiles, I suspect an easier cleaning since there are no joints.
Besides, I think something like that somehow fits our house.
Alternatively, I had thought about artificial granite.
