I just received the final invoice from the landscaper, in which all agreed prices are stated as net prices. That means the prices the landscaper always quoted to me and which we also documented together were to be understood as net prices. According to my understanding, craftsmen are only allowed to quote gross prices to the end customer. Is that correct? It concerns a difference of almost 6,000,-!

What can I do?

At what point did this become noticeable? At the offer or only at the billing? That would influence my actions. Basically, a craftsman must state gross prices including VAT to every private customer. Otherwise, he engages in unfair competition and can be fined up to €25,000. You have good negotiating cards that you should play fairly – depending on what was discussed, the quality of any work performed, and the relationship.

Unfortunately, almost everyone in construction always only talks about net prices. Therefore, it is always important to ask. What does agreed mean? Do you have a written contract? Craftsmen are obliged to state the final price, that is with VAT, to consumers.

How documented? As far as I know, as a consumer you only have to assume that the prices given to you are gross prices. You should also understand the stated/agreed price as gross. The craftsman is not allowed to do anything else.

All cards are in your hand. Even a reference to the terms and conditions is not permissible.
