Garden fence or hedge

Hello garden friends.

I am not quite sure whether I should put up a fence or rather a hedge in our newly created garden.

The advantage of a fence would of course be that it only needs to be painted and not constantly trimmed like a hedge :mad:

On the other hand, I would really like some privacy from the curious neighbors :) and in this regard the hedge clearly has the advantage.

Please give me advice, my wife and I just don’t know what is better now ... maybe someone here has a good idea to create a compromise ...

How big is the garden you want to fence in? If it is very big, then it might be too much effort to plant a hedge all around. Maybe you could simply combine fence and hedge...

Like everything, both a hedge and a fence have advantages and disadvantages. The fence needs to be painted, the hedge trimmed... some work is required in both cases. I would also choose both. Especially where you border the neighbors, I would plant the hedge there. But get advice regarding: which plants are best to choose.

I would also go for the hedge. It’s simply nicer than a privacy screen. You do have to trim it regularly, but then it’s also nice to look at :-) Of course, you can also really combine it, a fence and in front of it / next to it a hedge or something.
