Hello,

we are looking for mosquito/insect/fly screens for our windows in the single-family house (Schüco, plastic, mostly about 1x1m). In our apartment, we have always bought poor products so far, usually nets that were glued to the window frame. These either did not stick properly or tore (for whatever reason) after several months.

Can you (from your own experience) recommend, possibly also specific products, that

1. offer a good price-performance ratio (a company near us charges 180€ per window (plastic net))

2. last a long time (possibly thin stainless steel/aluminum mesh?)

3. are as easy as possible to install (we have zero craftsmanship skills)?

Last summer there were plenty of offers at the discounters with aluminum frames under 20 euros per m2.

Installation DIY is not quite easy though.

we had both in the old house, high-quality in the rooms and DIY discount store in the basement, both for clamping. DIY warped and flabby but manageable, high-quality regularly taken out and put back in for over 10 years, 1 fall from the upper floor onto the terrace, all fine. Stainless steel is only taken with [Katze], the black plastic looks better

There are quite different stable and durable nets; a good product is simply more expensive - and if you are less skilled at handiwork yourself, it just becomes a bit more expensive.

We had sturdy aluminum frames with good custom-made coverings built; for the basement windows and pantry, mouse-proof with wire mesh. They were not exactly cheaper but are still like new after 10 years.

We have fitted 10 windows with fly screens custom-made by the carpenter. They fit perfectly and are in a sturdy metal frame that is hung into the window. Cost: approx. €1,300. However, we had a small surcharge due to the color (RAL 9010).

The easiest option would probably be to attach Velcro strips to the windows. I once had that in a rental apartment (from long ago days ...).

I have had very good experiences with fly screens from KoriTec. Custom-sized, fully assembled or for self-assembly (but you do have to work carefully). Some have now been hanging for 7 years.

The high-quality ones are, in my opinion, worth every cent.

And yes, 100 EUR for a screen is a normal price.
