Hello,

in the basement of my new building, a room is planned as a fitness room/home theater. The room is about 6x4 meters in size. Underfloor heating is planned. I had read somewhere that needle felt would be a suitable covering because it is easy to clean (due to sweat) and heavy equipment does not leave marks.
Which floor covering would you recommend?

Obviously, vinyl is usually waterproof, you just have to be careful with the seams. I installed it in a basement room, with panels that overlap and are cold-welded. It has been tested and proven to be waterproof. If you take it from the roll in room width, the only problem is the edges, so that nothing runs under the screed at the wall ([Silikonfuge hilft fürs erste]).

I need that too... Above all, it should be sturdy so that the weight plates can fall down sometimes.

We have tiles and thick catch mats for the dumbbells on them. There are really special ones. That works well.

And those seams are exactly what I meant – if you cold-welded it, that’s really good, but hardly anyone does that. And silicone doesn’t really seal – especially not as an edge joint to the wall.

Although, with vinyl I was thinking more of the currently "trendy" "design flooring" and not about what you have in room width.

However, you have the same problem with tiles of course – that is the only thing I "panic" about, that water in the basement might run behind the screed. I secured my sump pump threefold, but you never know...

It's true about the silicone, but it's a good barrier if something is spilled, actually you can then clean and wipe calmly without a significant amount flowing away. The water doesn't stand that high anyway. It's basically like with tile skirting boards. At least for me it seals very well (because of the kids, for example washbasins are also sealed and that works..)
