Prefinished parquet flooring is also available at the price of laminate. Dents or not. However, it is very easy to maintain and can be cleaned in no time. Just throw down the usual children's rugs in the play areas. Later, simply dispose of them.

I think rubber is a great flooring material: renewable, extremely durable (often installed in subway cars!), extremely elastic, free of PVC and halogens (no dioxin in case of fire), very easy to maintain. It costs about the same as linoleum and is used just as gladly in daycares as the latter.

We have had good experiences with tiles measuring 75 x 75 cm throughout the entire house – including in the children's room for a 5-year-old child – combined with a play rug (model streets) or play mat in the living room. Since playing on the floor is naturally always allowed/necessary there, staying on the floor is quite okay even for adults; we also use a beanbag or a discarded nursing pillow or something similar for support. Everything can be quickly washed if needed.

That will be quite a cold experience on the floor for the OP without underfloor heating. Without underfloor heating, I consider the choice of tiles to be the wrong, because uncomfortable, decision.

No matter what kind of floor it is, I would always put a carpet over it in the playrooms. Consistent removal of shoes, no eating, drinks, or water games. If the carpet gets too nasty (for whatever reason that might happen), then buy a new carpet. Ours still looks like new after 5 years. It didn’t cost 100€.

Also, choose the carpet one size smaller, so there is enough bare floor left for building blocks.
