Industrial parquet! 15 mm solid end-grain wood, vertical lamellae. Oil and done. In oak super hard, visually insensitive to the occasional scratch (you simply don’t see them), often sandable if desired, you have the warmth of wood and it’s also affordable. I wouldn’t know what could speak against it. Except maybe the glue argument.

Thank you very much for the input, I hadn’t even had that on my radar. Is something like that easy enough for the DIYer to install? I mean, solid wood parquet and click vinyl are really two different things.

You can manage it, but some installation experience doesn’t hurt. It needs to be glued down and then sanded. It’s some work, but definitely worth it. And the price is unbeatable for solid wood. Check out Yout***, there are videos about it.
