Hello everyone,

my wife and I are basically almost finished with our planning for the floor plan (Mediterranean city villa). Our living area should be very open, meaning living + dining + kitchen in a spacious L-shape. I have uploaded the intended floor plan.

On the south side, we have planned 3 floor-to-ceiling double windows that should bring in a lot of light and look very harmonious from the outside. The distance from the window wall to the living and fireplace wall is 4.80m.

My concerns are as follows. I cannot place a sofa directly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window if I want to decorate the windows with curtain panels, so I will definitely have to place the sofa a good distance away from the window. Accordingly, there is not much space left to the living wall. Of course, everything should look airy and not too cramped. So there are about 4m from the back of the sofa to the living wall.

How would you arrange the sofas or corner sofas??? Maybe completely differently???

Hi, at first glance I would place the sofa so that you can also look outside. So basically against the wall where the fireplace is now. And then as an L also along the 4.8 m long windowless wall. The fireplace would then either have to be moved to the exterior wall or removed. Best regards, Andreas

I see it similarly to andimann. The view should be out of the room, seen from the sofa. The TV could then possibly be hung on the wall between two windows, which would also eliminate the reflections you would have if the TV were placed on the fireplace wall. Otherwise, our sofa is only about 30-40cm away from the window so that my lady can drape her shawl as desired.

PS: The chimney protruding into the hallway would bother me (if it is as drawn). You come from the stairs and have a 40cm "obstacle" on the wall at about a one meter distance. I am assuming that the wall upstairs above the fireplace wall in the living room is identical.

With us, the sofa is in a similar situation in front of a floor-to-ceiling window with about 10cm distance to the wall for the curtains. Instead of looking at the TV, we look at the fireplace.

I think our priority when lounging on the sofa is the view of the fireplace

Is a distance of 30cm to 40cm from the window to the edge of the sofa sufficient?
