Yes, the great view is regularly overestimated and the use of the garden is underestimated. In my opinion, a roof terrace becomes completely obsolete - no one wants to be bored up there. That’s why I would also move everything down one floor and lock the children in the roof instead. But we have already discussed this so many times here. The builders who move out of their apartment often think they absolutely have to "take" their beloved roof terrace with them. But a house is not an apartment - view or not. Life in summer takes place in the garden. Even in winter, you want short distances to build a snowman and feed birds.

I would really be interested in the sources of this statement. For me, the view is also very important. Of course, I also want short ways to the garden. But in my priorities, the view is clearly subordinated to the paths outside.
If you look at how many days of the year one spends outside and how many only inside, then I would say that this is also the more sensible decision.

Let's say: Priority 1: the path.. Anyone who has a garden and no gardener, almost every day. It's about care, production, and active enjoyment, not about just looking. You don't live by looking, but by acting and activities :) Of course, there are also other people who then look through the window with their arms crossed behind or in front... and prefer to watch the people outside.

And how much actual time spent inside is purely devoted to appreciating the view? Don’t people mostly live inside? Clean, cook, laugh, play, sleep, wash, etc.?
But if you always have to cover long distances for every item on the terrace/in the garden, you sometimes curse ;). And, one does not exclude the other, you can try to organize eating/cooking close to the garden and still create a nice scenic spot for a relaxation corner.

I am outside daily, even if only briefly for a little stroll through the garden with a cup of coffee in hand. I look outside little. At the moment it is dark when I leave the house and also when the work is done.

I don't need to conduct a statistical survey for that. The time people spend intensely looking outside from their apartment is negligibly small. Except perhaps for those over 70 who already rely on walking aids and wheelchairs. Oh yeah? How long have you been looking into the air today? A minute or two? Only when guests come do they say oh and ah. The host is pleased and thinks he did everything right. But when the guests leave, the view is already unimportant again. Eventually, he has to admit that it would be nice to step faster from the kitchen to the lawn. The problem is that the view gets tired after looking at it three times. But the garden wants to be discovered, conquered, and above all cared for every day. Life on the rooftop terrace is almost always a relic of the living habits from apartment days, when there was no garden yet. But of course, we don't want to force anyone to their happiness here. ;)
