…what about land costs, or are they included in the 500k?

I think it’s quite simply explained. We are just so extremely cautious that we feel like we’ll suddenly start “floundering” with unforeseeable things, especially with the background that the equity then won’t be available anymore. A very simple example: a month ago one of our two cats was seriously ill, stayed long in the clinic, and in the end it cost us €3,000. You don’t just have that available readily, but at the beginning after building the house, you really have to see how you can manage that.

Maybe we are just more anxious than most of the population and we worry way too much. In the end, we still don’t know what we should do, a big drawback remains the 45km commute to work with ever rising fuel prices. That really hits hard.

The land costs are already included in the amount.

Eyeyey... spending €3000 on a cat... Sometimes you have to set priorities in life.

You can see it however you want. Should I have let her die? The priority at that moment was the cat, with you it seems to be ranked differently.

Fuel costs and wear and tear on the car are of course a big expense. That is the price for the "affordable" property. You have to spend money on mobility accordingly. Home office is not an option? As for time: sometimes you cover 30km faster than 5km through the traffic jam in the city. If I have to go to the other end of my small big city, I could also drive to the big city 40km away in the same time. Finances are fine, at least for now. And if you keep a buffer because it makes you feel more comfortable, you can still manage the loan well. Maybe around €20k... You can take good care of the cat with that... By the way, I have surgery cost insurance for my horse. It doesn’t cost a fortune and hopefully saves me from large bills in cases like that (the case has never occurred so far). Alternatively to having amount x in savings, you can also consider whether you can insure this or that risk.
