Exactly for this reason, the DM times with extremely high mortgage interest rates cannot be compared to the year 2021... change of times :)

Yes, that's true, but if the loan were paid off, the borrower / homeowner would already be 86 years old. But life expectancy is supposed to increase, right! I'm curious when there will be the first multi-generational financings. If prices keep rising like this, there will soon be terms of 80 - 100 years. Well, thank you.

But nobody talks about 80-year terms? The OP is talking about terms of not even 35 years - that's not even up to retirement... Those were normal terms back then too?

With terms over 40 years, a bank won't give you a loan anyway... Still all within limits here :) You have to distinguish between interest and repayment. It was not possible to take out such a high loan earlier because the interest rates were at 8%, you hadn't even started repaying yet! Today, construction costs are higher, but you can "relatively quickly" reduce the loan well with 1% interest :)
