I am now asking myself exactly the same question.
For us, there is only DSL 16,000 (at least theoretically).
A DSL connection permanently without changing every two years costs at least €35/month.
Connection fee €800.
€400 credit if a MagentaZuhause product is booked directly.
UnityMedia also demands €400 upon simultaneous contract conclusion.
Cable can reach up to 400mbits for us.
Costs (without TV) are €30/month for a smaller tariff.
In the end, UnityMedia offers more internet bandwidth at lower ongoing costs, but they then also have a monopoly. Unless you alternate contract signings with your spouse.
From a gut feeling, I would now like to have both. But my head says no to €400 + €800.
Our street will only be extended in the coming years. Therefore, the idea now is to provide an empty conduit here and, when the street is extended, to order the other medium.
Providing an empty conduit when introducing the line is still not a problem. But it must be sealed and must not allow water to pass through.
Does this idea sound reasonable or rather completely absurd? My father-in-law gave me a strange look. My coworker first gave me the idea.
