That’s exactly what I was thinking too. Our tiler said that you shouldn’t skimp at the wrong end. The floor in the storage / [HW-Raum] can be heavily used, so it’s worth investing in higher-quality tiles. Besides, then you don’t have so many different tiles in the house. It just looks a bit more uniform.

Exactly that’s why I’m asking. We first chose the ugliest/cheapest tiles with that 70s laundry room flair for the utility room. At some point I realized that the difference to our stylish tiles was just about 200 euros. Considering that the doors stay open for longer periods when cleaning, working, and handling things, and I also want it to look nice in the adjacent rooms (then the duty really is more enjoyable), the savings are not worth mentioning – so I would always advise fitting the adjacent rooms with the same tiles. Utility cellar excluded from the advice

The price difference between hallway/entrance tiles and utility room/storage is about 22 euros/sqm.
The utility room has just over 12 sqm, storage room just under 6 sqm

Tile size for hallway/entrance/kitchen 30 x 60
Tile size utility room/storage room 30 x 30

I can follow the argument regarding coordinating the tiles in the house, but I think that the utility rooms will really only be utility rooms for us. Although the point about the stress on the tiles does give me some pause. I especially have the regularly running washing machine in mind here. On the other hand, I believe that our landlord also did not install the highest quality tiles. And the washing machine runs continuously on those as well.
I think it really depends on the quality of the tile installer’s work. If he leaves a hollow space under the tile, then the tile can break (possibly even under less stress).

Since the tiles for kitchen/hallway/entrance at 30 x 60 are somewhat larger, it could be a bit more difficult to lay them in a small room like the storage room, or result in more waste.

We are quite satisfied with our decision so far – although we had not actually considered this point.
