Fall protection in front of the window or in the window reveal?

Hello everyone.

I am planning to commission 5 fall protection devices for our floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor from a friendly metalworker.

How would you attach these? Screwed in front of the window (that is, in front of the outer wall)? Or rather screwed into the window reveal?

Do I need to consider anything specific regarding the fastening?

The relevant outer wall consists of a plastered Poroton cladding shell with a thickness of 17.5 cm.
Does it play a structural role whether I drill into the stones from the end face or the surface?

And which system would you use for the fastening?

I would be very happy to receive some information...

We screwed the grids in front of the facade, not into the reveal. For us, there is only about 5cm of space in front of the roller shutter rail up to the outer edge, and about 1-2cm of that is plaster. Our metalworker first drilled a hole into the Poroton brick, and the dowels were glued in there, because Poroton would not be very durable otherwise.

Best regards
Sabine

We have it in the reveal. I find it looks significantly better in the reveal, especially with a plastered house. I can't say anything about the fastening; for us, the anchoring is in the brick facade. Search for "sprechen Sie uns gerne auf individuelle Pulverbeschichtung an". Result 1. They also offer mounting material with grids.

I would also, if it fits, install it in the reveal. But as curly writes, it can possibly be too tight. With a 17.5 cm exterior wall, there might not be much space left, so probably only the mounted version would be possible. You would need to measure and clarify that, but purely visually I personally find the reveal version better.

It is a 17.5 insert shell.

The wall structure in the areas consists of (from inside to outside) plaster / aerated concrete / insulation / Poroton / plaster.

I haven't measured it, but it feels like there is 30cm of space from the outside of the window to the end of the plaster!

Are there special adhesive sleeves with internal threads that I can glue into the Poroton? Or how would you attach something there?

There are usually several objectives that do not necessarily lie on the same line:
1. Obtain building approval
2. Meet aesthetic requirements
3. Fulfill personal safety needs
4. Stay within a budget framework

Regarding 1.: A provisional solution is sufficient for the approval, which is then replaced by a later solution that does not require a renewed inspection.
Regarding 2.: Taste is different. Some prefer "airier" solutions than others.
Regarding 3.: Who lives in the house, who can access the windows? Sometimes no railing is the most beautiful.
Regarding 4.: obviously.

Sometimes it is worthwhile to have the approval done with the cheapest solution in order to have creative freedom afterwards – sometimes omitting is the best and cheapest solution. Keep possible liability in mind and consider it based on your own criteria.
