How limited is the space and how high is the surcharge?

We left it out and haven't regretted it so far. ;-)

The electrician firmly promised us the wider box, we have endless space, but he installed the somewhat narrower box, which already led to massive additional effort during the installation of the photovoltaic system. I would like to connect some self-laid power cables in there, but the space is very tight.

So, I would love to retrofit the wider box today if that were possible.

The field more would fit, I think I have to plan for additional costs of about 800-1000 euros

I can understand that people don't like to "throw money out the window." But you certainly don't need to worry about it for days ;):p Do it and you will be prepared for all the technical gadgets that might come along in the next decades.

My forecast was and is that there will be more tariffs dependent on time rather than tariffs dependent on the type of usage. Because actually, it makes no difference for electricity providers whether the electricity goes to a heating system, a car, or the oven. More important is at what time electricity is cheap on the market and when it is not. This is somewhat reflected in the heating tariffs. They are cut off when the electricity is currently expensive for the provider. However, this is still quite primitive through fixed cutoff times. I assume that this can also be managed very cleverly with a meter.

With us, the heat pump tariff is about 10 ct cheaper, so I even think that the tariff will still be worthwhile for a photovoltaic system without storage, since in the dark season a little more electricity has to be drawn in the old building. Besides, I also assume that the political framework conditions will change in such a way that these electricity things are more likely to be subsidized than coal/gas.
